Tall fescue
Festuca arundinacea
This perennial, tussock-forming and leafy tall grass with few culms prefers seasonally wet locations. Tall fescue is cultivated on cool, damp, poorly drained soils, on which more valuable grasses are unlikely to thrive. Only very young plants are eaten on pastures. Later, animals avoid it, as it tends towards troublesome propagation or undesirable inflorescences. Its importance in cultivation is limited by its restriction to certain sites.
