Red fescue

Festuca rubra rubra

Red fescue is a perennial short grass. Only varieties belonging to the creeping red fescue group are used in agricultural applications. Red fescue is relatively winter-hardy and has few requirements in terms of soil and climate. However, extremely dry, wet or nutrient-poor sites should be avoided. This means that it is used to create swards on poor, light or swampy sites. Red fescue tolerates acute grazing and is suitable for limited use in meadows. It is indispensable in mixtures for rough and unfavourable sites.
