TERRA GOLD® 5 Biofum

Biofum is a special mixture designed to combat soil-dwelling pests using biofumigation. This process uses the gas emitted by plant cells after the plant matter is chopped up. Once the cells of the cruciferous plants in the mixture are mechanically damaged, enzymes in the plant release gases called isothiocyanates (ITC). The plant mulch must be immediately incorporated into the soil and, if possible, covered, to keep the ITC from being released into the air. ITC destroys a wide spectrum of harmful soil organisms and pathogens.
