Timothy grass
Phleum pratense
Timothy grass is a perennial, high-yielding tall grass with loose tussocks. In comparison to other grass species, its importance for cultivation is moderate. It has a restrained initial development and grows relatively slowly after being cut. It is stable, not sensitive to cold and moisture, and can adapt to most sites. It is a valuable component of mixtures containing clover and alfalfa. Due to its low crowding-out effect with respect to slow-growing short grasses, it does well in mixtures for new plantings of meadows and pastures in locations that are not too dry.
