Smooth-stalked meadow grass
Poa pratensis
Smooth-stalked meadow grass is a perennial short grass with good adaptability to soil and climate conditions, adequate winter-hardiness, resistance to trampling and mowing tolerance, which makes it a sward-forming component of mixtures for meadows and pastures, with the exception of locations with heavy, cold soils. Because of its very slow initial development, it is very difficult for it to push through in new plantings over species with more competitive vigour. As a result of its runner-forming habit, however, it is able to occupy a high percentage of the stand later.
