Beet
Beta vulgaris
Beet is a biennial herbaceous plant that is mainly used as fodder plant and does not tolerate frost. Its taproots can reach soil depths of up to 1.5 metres. Beet provides valuable, tasty fodder that has a positive effect on the digestion and metabolism of the animals. The plant is characterised by good shelf life and good dry matter content. The smooth, bulky beet body makes them easy to lift -- manually or by machine -- with relatively little residual dirt. The enormous leaf mass remains fresh and healthy until uprooting.
