Alsike clover
Trifolium hybridum
Alsike clover, which can be used as an annual or perennial, is less demanding than red clover in terms of soil and climate conditions. It can tolerate humidity and moisture better than red clover, but not drought. Moreover, alsike clover is more tolerant of successive planting than red clover. It cannot withstand trampling and provides the best yield in the first cut. It is used in clover-grass mixtures and for underseeding as green manure. This is because as a pure stand it is not readily eaten by animals due to its bitter taste.
